Laser hair removal
Epilation by laser was performed experimentally for about 20 years before it became commercially available in the mid 1990s. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) epilators, though technically not a laser, use xenon flash lamps that emit full spectrum light. Laser and light-based methods, sometimes called phototricholysis or photoepilation, are now most commonly referred to collectively as "laser hair removal". One of the first published articles describing laser hair removal was authored by the group at Massachusetts General Hospital in 1998.[1][2]The efficacy of laser hair removal is now generally accepted in the dermatology community, and laser hair removal is widely practiced. Many reviews of laser hair removal methods, safety, and efficacy have been published in the dermatology literature.
Mechanism of action
The primary principle behind laser hair removal is selective photothermolysis (SPTL).[4] Lasers can cause localized damage by selectively heating dark target matter, (melanin), in the area that causes hair growth, (the follicle), while not heating the rest of the skin. Light is absorbed by dark objects, so laser energy can be absorbed by dark material in the skin (but with much more speed and intensity). This dark target matter, or chromophore, can be naturally-occurring or artificially introduced.Hair removal lasers selectively target melanin:Melanin is considered the primary chromophore for all hair removal lasers currently on the market. Melanin occurs naturally in the skin (it gives skin and hair its color). There are two types of melanin in hair: eumelanin (which gives hair brown or black color) and pheomelanin (which gives hair blonde or red color). Because of the selective absorption of photons of laser light, only black or brown hair can be removed. Both men and women seek laser hair removal services to have superfluous or unwanted hair removed. Hair removal is commonly done on lip, chin, ear lobe, shoulders, back, underarm, abdomen, buttocks, pubic area, bikini lines, thighs, face, neck, chest, arms, legs, hands, and toes.Laser works best with dark coarse hair. Light skin and dark hair are an ideal combination, but new lasers are now able to target dark black hair even in patients with dark skin.Hair removal lasers have been in use since 1997 and the Food and Drug Administration approved it for “permanent hair reduction.” Laser hair removal has become extremely popular because of its speed and efficacy, although some of the efficacy is dependent upon the skill and experience of the laser operator, and the choice and availability of different laser technology at the clinic which is performing the procedure. Some will need touch-up treatments, especially on large areas, after the initial set of 3-8 treatments. It has also been observed that some people seem to be non-responders – this is not confirmed and reasons are not known, and may in fact be due to lack of skill on the part of many laser operators and/or the type of machine and settings they are using.

Back Hair Removal
Back Hair RemovalThe Benefits of Back Laser Hair RemovalThe biggest problem with back hair removal for men is the process of removing it. Shaving presents the obvious problem of reach, it’s nearly impossible to shave your own back, and it can be even more frustrating and embarrassing to find someone to do the job for you. Waxing back hair and depilatory creams also offer their own sets of problems. Like shaving, hair removal depilatories can be hard to apply to your own back, and waxing can be extremely painful, especially for men with excessive back hair. Unfortunately, more hair translates to more pain. In recent years, the simplest solution for removing hair from the back and shoulders has become laser hair removalLaser hair removal is an efficient hair removal method that can be used on just about every part of the body. Common areas include the lips, chin, cheeks, necks, shoulders, underarms, bikini lines, thighs, hands, and even toes. Among men, popular regions include the “unibrow,” the nape of the neck, and, of course, back laser hair removal. The advantage of laser treatments for back hair removal over waxing or depilatories is that lasers represent permanent hair removal. Laser back hair removal is less painful than waxing and more efficient than shaving or depilatories.
Laser Hair Removal Cost & Pricing
Getting an accurate idea of laser hair removal pricing can be difficult and often times, frustrating. There are a number of variables that laser clinics, med spas, and medical professionals consider when determining the cost of a single laser hair removal treatment or a full treatment package. However, one thing is generally certain: Purchasing permanent hair removal treatments as part of a package is cheaper than paying per treatment. Often times, a laser hair removal clinic will offer discounted pricing when you buy in bulk. Or, if there are special promotions being offered during a particular month, they’re usually only valid towards package treatments
Who is a candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
Almost anybody who has undesirable hair is a candidate for laser hair removal. However certain conditions may complicate treatment. Laser hair removal achieves the best results with light-skinned, dark-haired individuals. Lasers with longer wavelengths are generally useful for darker-skinned patients.Caution must be exercised in certain situations:The presence of an active bacterial or viral infection prevents treatment until the condition resolves.A history of hypertrophic scarring or keloid formation requires less aggressive laser treatments in order to avoid any complications. The presence of a suntan makes laser hair removal less effective and increases the likelihood of scarring or skin injury. If you have psoriasis or vitiligo, you should be warned about the possibility of causing more lesions in the treated areas. Most dermatologists recommend waiting 1 year after taking isotretinoin (Accutane®) before doing laser hair removal because of atypical scarring that has been associated with use of this drug during treatment.Where?Laser hair removal can be performed on virtually any hair bearing part of your body including your arms, legs, bikini area, back, etc. Objectives of TherapyThe primary objective is safe and effective hair removal.Total permanent hair removal, while desirable, is not always possible.
